Aberdeen is one of the world leaders for the oil and gas industry, and today it sits at around £4 billion - an increase of 31% over the last two years. The establishment of the Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) in 2016 saw £180 million funding from both the Scottish and UK governments, with aims to invest in offshore engineering projects in the region.
Other top-performing industries in Aberdeen include life sciences, adding almost £40 million Gross Value Added to the Scottish economy, food, drink and agriculture, accounting for 17% of Scottish GVA and directly employing over 22,000 people, and the digital industries; in 2015 4,250 people were employed across 875 enterprises located in the city.
