Top Canterbury companies by revenue

Canterbury has a thriving economy and offers a wide range of business opportunities. The three largest industries; tourism, retail and higher education, are all performing very well, and more than a third of businesses in the city are from these sectors.

Tourism represents an extremely important source of income for the city's economy; in 2015 it generated more than £450 million, thanks to visits from 7.2 million people. Almost 10,000 people were employed indirectly through tourism in the same year, a rise of 6% from the year before. The two universities in Canterbury are also vital contributors to the economy; in 2014/2015, they had a value of £909 million and provided 16% of all jobs in the city.

At Global Database we've used the data from our Canterbury B2B database to put together a list of the top-performing businesses in the city. Check out the results here, and see which companies and industries are currently dominating the city in terms of revenue.

The manufacturing sector also plays a big role in the economy of Canterbury. Most of the companies in the sector are located within the city's twelve business parks, including John and Joseph Wilson Business Parks and St Augustine's Business Park. Newer industries such as design and digital arts are also seeing great growth in the city, and the new high-speed rail link means easier access to London and Europe as a whole.

Unemployment in the city is low, and its economy is the strongest out of the whole region. In comparison to other cities nearby, Canterbury has a high number of highly-qualified residents, and is also on par with the national average for stock of businesses.
