Top City of London companies by revenue

The City of London has a booming economy that is vital to the UK. In 2016 it had a GVA of around £49.2 billion, almost 3% of the country's overall output, and over 12% of London's. The city is an important global hub for finance and insurance, and employment in the sector is expected to grow by 0.2% a year from 2018 to 2050, adding a further 23,000 jobs to the thriving industry.

There are currently around 485,000 people working in the city, which accounts for 9% of all employment in the Greater London area. One in 63 of the total UK workforce has employment in the city. The City of London is predicted to see a rise of 34% in employment by 2050, meaning a total of 705,000 workers across all sectors in the region.
