Tourism is another increasingly important industry for the city. In 2016, the number of visitors increased by 3.8%, generating a total of £155 million for the city's economy. The average stay was 3.5 nights, with daily spend sitting at almost £83. In total there were 836,150 visits during 2016, with an increase expected thanks to the range of developments currently happening across the city.
The digital tech sector is also flourishing in Dundee. The sector generated £181 million in 2017, up from £146 million in 2016. More than 2600 people are employed in the sector, and the industry continues to grow thanks to the support available for start ups from the local universities, along with the highly-skilled and diverse range of talent available.
