Wakefield's strategic location means it is an important distribution hub for many market leading enterprises. Brands such as ASDA, Next, and TK Maxx have bases here, taking advantage of the city's accessibility and supply chain networks. There are a number of sites planned for further development in the distribution and manufacturing sectors, making the city an even more attractive business destination.
Innovation in manufacturing is also an important part of Wakefield's economy, being home to two manufacturers who have been awarded the Queens Award for Innovation. As a result, there are plans to build a £300 million power plant, as well as a £750 million gas-fired power station.
