The UK's administrative and support services sector is currently worth around £194.7 billion in yearly revenue, according to IBIS. It's a diverse industry, comprising areas such as IT, facilities management, digital services and the outsourcing of public services. The industry currently employs around 3.3 million people in the UK; that's over 10% of all jobs in the country. The sector is particularly prominent in London, providing 91% of the capital's overall economy.

The service sector is more important to the UK economy than any other G7 country. It currently accounts for around 9.3% of all UK economic output, and was the first sector to recover following the financial crash in 2008, beating construction, agriculture and manufacturing.

The service sector has seen continued growth over the years. In 2013 it accounted for 79% of all UK Gross Domestic Product, which was an increase of 46% from 1948. Small and medium sized businesses are an important asset for the industry, and are likely to play an even bigger part in its success going forward. The UK government has encouraged growth from SMEs, and public sector operations have seen an increase of £1.5 billion from 2010 - growth of around 20%.
