As the list above shows, the small city of Ely is diverse in its industry. One such sector that has seen promising growth is tourism. Ely Cathedral now draws in around 250,000 visitors every year, and the wider region of East Cambridgeshire benefits massively from the 3.5 million visitors it receives annually. In 2013 tourism contributed £183 million to the local economy, and employed 3,335 people.
Ely is a well connected city, benefiting tourism and business alike. It provides easy access to two of the UK's major roads, the A10 and the A142, and the city's train station offers good connections to major cities such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool, swell as Stansted Airport.
