The UK's transportation and storage industry currently turns over around £164.4 billion in revenue annually. With over 102,000 enterprises across the industry, more than 1.4 million people are directly employed by it.
The UK road transport industry saw freight weighing 1.89 billion tonnes being transported during 2016, which was an increase of 15% on the previous year. Air transportation saw 2.4 million tonnes of freight being lifted, and 84% of the 70 million visits abroad by UK residents were made by plane in 2016, an increase of 4% on the previous year.
The number of rail journeys being made each year has doubled over the last two decades, and things are certainly showing no signs of slowing down. With the UK population expected to grow to 77 million by 2050, the transport industry will need to be more efficient and capable of handling even more people, particularly on commuter routes.

On the storage side of things, the self-storage sector in particular is seeing great growth at the present time. In fact, demand is currently outdoing supply, thanks to renting levels increasing by 3% during 2017. The sector had an estimated turnover of £540 million in 2016.
